what does "treating" alcoholism even look like? - Altruist - 14-06-2026

Cage Jag Cage

i mean the only thing that works is locking someone up in a room for years

No idea

I easily quit weed and benzos

Alcohol is simply too cheap and readily available and the urge doesn't really go away. If anything the urge to drink is stronger after taking a break

I'm gonna quit for at least a month though starting in a week, only because my liver hurts like hell

Even if you were locked up, you would not automatically lose the desire to drink, if you are a serious alcoholic. As long as your alcoholic life is tolerable to you or 'better' than you imagine the sober life, why would you fix anything?

Alcoholic anonymous probably works only for people, who already have the desire to quit before they walk into their first meeting, and I'm convinced most alcoholics do not have that desire.

i realized i'm 20% more potent (which is a huge difference) when i started drinking today. the catch is it's nearly impossible to keep that level of intoxication stable and long-term - at that state of mind, you are also gonna think "if i keep this up, i'll start feeling even better", and you'll just end up drunk and incoherent. and no, the awareness that you've been through that same moment a million times won't help you be "rational" about it - you'll still end up wanting to and drink more. the other extreme is sobering up and turning back into your shit boring reality. i wish there was a real life "save game" option for states of mind.

they typically prescribe disulfiram so when u drink u start throwing up and u develop an aversion (garcia effect) then tell u to go to support groups

i heard theyre giving glp1 for it sometimes so maybe u can become a skinny legend too idk

Itcan help some people get "on the right track", though, not everyone is a massive spoiled bitch like me, who never had to really try hard for anything

This guy was smart enough to know how to deflect it and make the lawyer look cringe. but yeah, tgere are worse "stigmas" than that. at least he is trying to take care of his body, unlike morons who let themselves get to 150 kg

yeah its not that bad tbh

in the us its almost like a class signifier now bc all the wealthier ppl can manage the copays for it start taking it etc whereas the more lower class ppl cannot and they stay obese

You would consume mountains of mashed potato, kilogram of honey, kilos of sugar, and so on, while you attribute all blame to your damn addictive personality disorder. They just use it to earn more money or they don't know that alcohol by itself is a problem.
